HEPATOLOGY and Liver Transplantation | Limited Call for Applications: Editorial Fellow

HEPATOLOGY and Liver Transplantation, AASLD’s flagship journals, are seeking candidates who are interested in a year-long Editorial Fellowship.

Overview:

The Editorial Fellowship is available to junior faculty and trainee members of the AASLD who are interested in gaining more experience in the scholarly publishing and editorial processes. Editorial fellows will gain insight about manuscript submission, manuscript editing, response to reviewer comments, manuscript resubmission, the peer review process, and the selection and authorship of editorials and review articles under the supervision of experienced journal editors. The editorial fellow will also help generate materials to disseminate information to Emerging Liver Scholars, other interested fellows, and junior faculty. Previous Emerging Liver Scholars or members of the Liver Fellow Network are encouraged to apply.

Fellowship Duties and Expectations:

  • The fellowship will last for one year, beginning July 1, 2026
  • The time commitment averages about 4 to 6 hours per week
  • During the year, the AASLD editorial fellow will:
    1. Learn and develop journal content and the process of formatting, submitting, revising, and resubmitting a manuscript
    2. Follow select articles from invitation to submission to publication
    3. Learn how electronic manuscript review systems work
    4. Coauthor editorials, review articles, and/or other commentaries such as the Fellows’ Corner

Eligibility:

  • Applicants should be self-motivated, independent, and have a strong interest in medical publishing, editing, and peer review 
  • To be eligible for the AASLD Editorial Fellowship, applicants must:
    1. Be an AASLD trainee member (ILTS members will be considered for the Liver Transplantation fellowship only) or regular member within three years of having completed his or her fellowship at an academic medical center During the year, the AASLD editorial fellow will:

    2. Be in training or early career during the editorial fellowship year: 
    - Third or fourth year dedicated hepatology fellows 
    - Second through fourth year basic science PhD post-doctoral fellows 
    - Surgical trainees in transplantation 
    Faculty members within their first three years of appointment at an academic institution 

    3. Have a record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and have strong writing skills

3. Letter of Recommendation: One letter of recommendation is required from a program director, mentor, or department chair within your institution
