Explore the biographies and photos below of the inspiring women nominated by the EDI Committee in celebration of 2025 International Women's Day. Dr. Magda El-MonayeriDr. Magda El-Monayeri is a distinguished Professor of Pathology and Transplant Pathology at Ain Shams University, with a special focus on adult and pediatric liver pathology. She serves as a Consultant Transplant Pathologist at Ain Shams Center of Organ Transplantation (ASCOT), Wadi El-Neel Hospital, and Egypt Air Hospital. Dr. El-Monayeri received her PhD in General Pathology and trained in the Division of Liver and Transplantation Pathology at Edouard Herriot Hospital in Lyon, France. She has been an active member of the Banff Working Group on Liver Allograft Pathology, contributing to the development of consensus guidelines for standardizing allograft biopsy assessments. She is also a dedicated member of the Egyptian Liver Transplant Society (ELTS), the International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS), and the ILTS Pathology Committee, playing a key role in advancing liver transplant pathology worldwide. Dr. Julie HeimbachDr. Julie Heimbach is a Professor of Surgery and the Director of the William Von Liebig Center for Transplantation at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. As an abdominal transplant surgeon, her expertise includes living donor Dr. Heimbach has held several leadership roles, including serving on the OPTN Board, chairing the OPTN Liver Committee, and being a member of the governing board of the AASLD. She currently serves as the Treasurer of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Hepatology. She has also been actively involved with ILTS, contributing to the Transplant Oncology Group and serving on the planning committee for two ILTS meetings. Dr. Claire FrancozDr. Claire Francoz is a hepatologist specializing in liver intensive care and transplantation at Hôpital Beaujon, University of Paris VII. She currently leads the Liver Intensive Care Unit and Transplant Program in the department of hepatology. Her research focuses on acute liver failure and decompensated cirrhosis, with a particular interest in renal failure. She has contributed extensively to the field, publishing over 150 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Francoz has held leadership roles within ILTS, previously serving as Vice-Chair of the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Committee and currently as a member of the Scientific and Educational Committee. She is also an Associate Editor for Transplantation and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Hepatology. |
