Acute Liver Failure SIGThe Acute Liver Failure Special Interest Group is committed to advancing communication, education, and research among clinicians to enhance the management and transplantation outcomes for patients with liver failure syndromes. This includes both acute liver failure (ALF), a rare and deadly condition, and acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF), a more prevalent yet lethal condition that occurs on the backdrop of pre-existing chronic liver disease. By fostering collaboration, the group aims to improve care strategies and survival rates for these critically ill patients.
SIG Objectives: 1. Promote Communication: Foster communication among clinicians treating patients with both ALF and ACLF, allowing them to share experiences and insights on clinical practices. 2. Encourage International and Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Support international and multidisciplinary involvement in research and education related to ALF and ACLF. 3. Disseminate Research Findings: Enhance the dissemination of ALF and ACLF research findings through ILTS educational initiatives, including the Annual Congress, dedicated webinars, single-topic meetings, and joint events like the AASLD-ILTS Transplant Course. 4. Develop Guidelines and Consensus Statements: Focus on developing research questions, consensus statements, and clinical guidelines for liver transplantation in both ALF and ACLF. 5. Collaborate with Other Organizations: Work with other organizations to promote research and establish standards of care for patients with ALF and ACLF.
